The Waikato District Council is currently finalising design and preparing contract documents for an upgrade of the intersection of Great South Road, Old Taupiri road and Regent street in Ngaruawahia.
In addition to a new roundabout on Great South Road, some intersection improvements at Galbraith St/Old Taupiri road are required, as well as upgrade to the existing pedestrian crossing over the railway.
Noting that the project does not include any work on the existing vehicle crossing.
The roundabout will also have signalised controls linked to the Kiwirail system, to prevent stacking over the railway crossing on Old Taupiri road
This is a fully funded project that we intend to commence construction on early in the New Year, with completion targeted for early to Mid-April 2025.
The sequencing of the works will need to be carefully considered and planned due to the nature of the road and the high volume of traffic on it.
Noting that this is the main point of access to and from Ngaruawahia to the North.
Whilst the fastest way to construct the works will be under full road closures, this will not be possible as there are no suitable long term diversion routes available.
It is envisaged that the work will be completed in stages, potentially each quadrant in turn, in order to minimise the disruption to traffic and this will need to be a key focus in terms of methodology.
For the same reason, liquidated damages will be nominated as part of the tender.
Contract form will be either NZS:3910 or NZS:3915
Request for Tender will be posted to GETS in the second half of November 2024 with a 3 week tender period.
Tenders will be assessed using weighted attributes evaluation with a likely weighting of 70% on quality and 30% on price.
We will organise a site visit in the next 2 -3 week window if interested please register your details by emailing tenders@waidc.govt.nz
