Overview

The Wallace Street Pipeline Corridor project involves renewal and upgrade of the existing potable water, waste water and stormwater networks and the construction of connections to the bulk water main network for the proposed new Omāroro Reservoir. The contract scope includes for supply of all materials.

The works to each network are proposed to be undertaken concurrently to mitigate disruption for residents, road users, and other stakeholders.

The project scope includes the following:
- Construction of an 800mm concrete lined steel (CLS) inlet pipeline from the top of Hargreaves St to a connection with the existing bulk main in Wright St;
- Construction of a 900mm CLS outlet pipeline from the top of Hargreaves St, along Wallace St and Howard St, to a connection with the existing bulk main on Tasman St;
- Replacement on a new alignment of the existing 100mm diameter water supply pipelines on Hargreaves St and on Wallace St near the bottom of Rolleston St;
- Renewal of existing 40mm, 50mm, 100mm diameter water mains on Wallace St and Finlay Tce;
- Upgrade of the existing stormwater pipeline at the bottom of Rolleston St to 525mm diameter; and
- Renewal of the existing 100/150mm diameter waste water pipelines on Wallace St and Finlay Tce including two spurs that cross private property.

Key issues for the project include:
- Traffic Management – Wallace St is a key corridor for traffic between SH1 and the CBD and the Southern suburbs of Wellington City. Effective management of traffic during construction will have a huge impact on the success of the project; and
- Stakeholder / Community Liaison – The Wallace St pipeline project is the first of a series of significant construction activities proposed for the suburb of Mt Cook. Wellington Water sees effective stakeholder/community liaison as critical for maintaining support for these projects. The successful contractor will be required to provide a community liaison person to implement continuous communications with affected residents.
