Retaining Wall Remediation Works

Wellington City Council (WCC) is wishing to carry out remedial works at Takarau Gorge Road (Priority 2 - Sites 3, 11A, 14 and 17A). This includes construction of retaining walls (gabion and riprap structures) to repair and retain the road corridor and prevent future scour events.
These sites were initially assessed in November 2021 when the road was inundated, resulting in extensive damage of the road profile and scouring of road embankment at various locations. The reassessment of these sites was completed in
September 2022, identifying two new scour sites (Site 11A and 17A). Each site is situated near the outside edge of Ohariu stream, which meanders and flows to the west. This makes it crucial to have awareness of the hydrological effects on the site.
Underground services are also present across the site, such as Transpower fibre optics. All the sites exhibit moderate risks and are in danger of further erosion.

Tenders are invited from suitably qualified contractors to complete the scope of work provided in the tender document which involves construction of gabion and riprap walls, and associated reinstatement works in Takarau Gorge Rd, Ohariu, Wellington. The contract work is proposed to start by 1 May 2023.

Tenderers are expected to have suitable relevant experience and track record in remediation works and wall construction of this type. Tenderers are also expected to have the capability to implement a good construction management plan and appropriate quality management systems to undertake the contract work.
