In mid-January 2022, Wellington City Council intends to release an RFP for the purchase of technical consultancy services to develop and undertake an assessment of climate change impacts affecting the Wellington region on behalf of 9 Councils.
Background:
The Wellington region (“the Region”) is prone to many natural hazards, many of which are likely to be exacerbated by climate change.
Councils in the region need to make decisions about how to best respond to climate change impacts, including how to avoid, mitigate or manage any or all associated social, environmental, cultural and economic consequences.
To best support these decisions, a Wellington Regional Climate Change Impact Assessment (“the Assessment”) has been proposed to be undertaken on behalf of the 9 Councils in the Wellington region:
This Assessment will support a number of climate change risk mitigation/adaptation activities including the formulation of Adaptation Plans; and informing spatial plans including District Plans, Long-Term Plans, Regional Plans, and the Wellington Regional Growth Framework.
The Assessment will also form the basis of the Wellington Regional Climate Change Adaptation Plan that is due to be developed by 2024, as part of the Wellington Regional Growth Framework.
The key services we intend to seek are:
1) Consolidation of existing data and identification of data gaps to support the Assessment;
2) Development of a methodology for undertaking the Assessment that is innovative, sustainable, and scalable in line with current best-practice to inform spatial planning decisions; and
3) Undertaking of the in-depth analysis of climate change impacts for the Region to include risks and opportunities (The Assessment).
We anticipate that the Contract will commence in March 2022, with the Assessment to be delivered in December 2022.
If you have any questions relating to this future opportunity, please contact us via email no later than 3pm, 21 December 2021. Contact details are in the attached FPO.
