The Wairoa Pedestrian and Cycleway Bridge is part of the Omokoroa to Tauranga Cycle Trail – a 19km route made up of both new and existing off-road shared paths and local road connections.
The Wairoa Pedestrian and Cycleway Bridge will provide a much safer alternative to the existing state highway corridor, where heavy and high volume traffic is suppressing the demand for cycling. This new scenic route will encourage more walking and cycling between the urban communities in the area and is likely to increase the number of children cycling to school. The route is expected to attract 130-200 commuter cyclists per day, with a higher estimate for recreational users.
The project includes but is not limited to:
Complete construction of the single span bridge including approaches
Landscaping
Any associated hard standing/civil works
