The Waikato community has consistently identified water quality as the top issue for the Waikato region for the past two decades. They want rivers that are swimmable and safe for collecting food along their entire lengths. Healthy Rivers/Wai Ora Proposed Waikato Regional Plan Change 1 – Waikato and Waipā River Catchments and Plan Change 1A is the bold response to addressing the complex problem of water quality facing our Waikato and Waipā Rivers. Waikato Regional Council are engaging an experienced panel of independent hearings commissioners to hear submissions, evidence and to make a recommendation to full Council on the plan change. The Hearings Panel is likely also to have a role past the release of decisions by being available to provide advice in the early stages of any future appeals process.
