The Waikato Regional Council invites tenders from suitably qualified and experienced contractors to undertake rat and possum control in the Tirohanga Road and Maungakawa (formerly known as Te Tapui A) ‘Project Halo’ sectors, situated 10 kilometres south of Cambridge and 14 kilometres east respectively.
Under ‘Project Halo’ (Halo), sites receive pest control on a ‘three years on - two years off’ basis.
Tirohanga Road
Covering an area of 136 hectares, the Tirohanga Road Halo site began its control cycle in 2014 and will receive annual control between 1 July and 30 September over the next two financial years (2015/16, 2016/17). While the entire project area encompasses 584 hectares of rolling farmland, and several land parcels, the actual operational area involves the above mentioned 136 hectares of habitat made up of native bush remnants scattered throughout the sector.
Maungakawa (Te Tapui A)
Covering 990 hectares, the Maungakawa Halo sector, formerly known as ‘Te Tapui A’, has just come out of the two year rest phase and is due to receive annual control between 1 July and 30 September over the next three financial years (2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18). Tenderers should note a sub-block of about 96 hectares located at the entrance to this sector is excluded from this tender.
Tenderers are advised to visit each operational area prior to tendering to satisfy themselves of the accuracy of any plans, drawings or specifications included in the RFT documents.
Contractor Pre-approval Requirement
It is important to note tenders will only be accepted from those contractors who have met in advance of the tender closing date, the Council’s Biosecurity ‘Pre-Approved Contractor’ criteria confirming contractor competency, health and safety processes in place, insurance, staff qualifications and experience. Contractors not yet pre-approved should contact Dave Byers in the first instance to discuss the pre-approval process and information required.
