We are seeking an experienced contractor to deliver a roofing repair project to the College of English building situated within the universities Dovedale Campus. The purpose of this RFQ is to engage a main contractor. The proposed roof overlay system is to be installed by one of the approved roofing contractors detailed in this RFP.
The College of English Language (CCEL) Building is located in the south west corner of the University of Canterbury’s College of Education Campus (Dovedale Campus) and is currently tenanted by an English language school. The building was originally a single level building constructed in 1991. Several alterations to the building have occurred over the years, including building above several of the existing single level wings on new ground floor areas to create two storey wings. The construction form of the building generally comprises a combination of reinforced blockwork wall and timber frame. The external façade of all blocks consists of lightweight cladding and glazing systems. All roof structures are timber frame. The wing sections are pitched with a lightweight sheet roof covering.
This RFP relates to the central core / spine of the building (highlighted blue below) which is a flat roof with a butanol membrane covering set across levels 01 & 02 of the building. The purpose of the roof renewal is to extend the longevity of the building until its long-term future is decided.
The butanol membrane roof covering to this central core / spine area has reached the end of its serviceable life and needs to be addressed. There are also isolated failures to the building façade and issues with the external ground levels around the central core that also need to be addressed. The university is adopting a minimalist intervention approach to maintain building functionalit
