Overview

The University of Auckland, Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre (ACSRC) has identified a need for a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Instrument (NMR). NMR spectroscopy is used daily by researchers in the ACSRC. The NMR technique allows researchers to determine the structure and purity of their synthesised intermediates and final drug molecules. Further experiments can measure other nuclei such as fluorine, boron, nitrogen, and phosphorous, depending on the probe heads used. 2D NMR techniques can help further with structure elucidation. Higher frequency instruments provide increased resolution and reduced acquisition times. Cooled probe heads such as Cryoprobe (liquid Helium) or a Prodigy probe (liquid Nitrogen) could further enhance resolution as a future enhancement of the facility.
