The opportunity
The new service offering in this RFP is designed with a renewed sense of ambition, aiming to improve the public transport network to meet the challenges of the region world where public transport becomes the preferred mode of travel and single occupancy car travel, especially for shorter urban journeys, is reduced. The network has been redesigned with engagement from the local community ensuring it aligns with their needs and preferences.
What we need
Taranaki Regional Council is seeking an experienced and competent public transport operator, who can effectively balance and respond to the needs of the Taranaki community. The supplier will work closely with the Council to grow patronage and encourage greater use of public transport.
Strong Local Management
The Regional Council is searching for local management that takes ownership of the service's evolution and works collaboratively to meet sustainability goals. We value strong local leadership and innovation, not just passive service delivery, but a proactive partner helping guide the region towards a more efficient, sustainable, and user-friendly public transport system.
What we don’t want
We are not looking for an inflexible supplier who is unwilling or unable to adjust services to meet changing demands. We do not want passive service delivery; we value strong local leadership and innovation. We also don’t want a service that is unsafe or unaffordable.
What’s important to us?
The successful supplier will provide a reliable, high-quality experience for our community that not only retains our current users but also attracts new customers to the service. The supplier must be responsive to feedback and address issues proactively as they arise.
We aim to transform public transport in Taranaki into a modern, environmentally conscious, integrated, accessible and customer focused service. This transformation should position public transport as the mode of choice for a wide range of utility and leisure travel, whether or not people have access to a car.
Why should you bid?
This contract is an exciting opportunity to help deliver a new public transport network for Taranaki. The business case includes a phased approach to the service delivery, meaning there is potential room for growth as patronage increases and funding becomes available. This is a chance to play a key role in shaping the future of public transport in the region.
