Overview

The Opportunity
The new service offering in this RFP is designed with a renewed sense of ambition, aiming to improve the public transport network to meet the challenges of the region where public transport becomes the preferred mode of travel and car travel is reduced. The network has been redesigned with engagement from the local community ensuring it aligns with their needs and preferences.

What we need
Taranaki Regional Council is seeking an experienced and competent public transport operator, who can effectively balance and respond to the needs of the Taranaki community. The supplier will work closely with the Council to grow patronage and encourage greater use of public transport.

Strong Local Management
The Regional Council is searching for local management that takes ownership of the service's evolution and works collaboratively to meet sustainability goals. We value strong local leadership and innovation, not just passive service delivery, but a proactive partner helping guide the region towards a more efficient, sustainable, and user-friendly public transport system.

Innovation and Continuous improvement
Stay abreast of and suggest service updates relating to industry trends, technological advancements, customer service initiatives, and operational improvements.
Actively seek regular customer insights and service feedback to make service adjustments

Collaboration and Strategic Guidance
Be a strategic partner that leads the council toward better decisions for the community
Be ready to lead conversations about future needs relating to service enhancements, operational efficiencies, and user experience, and suggesting the best course of action.

Sustainability
The provider must be committed to working toward minimising their environmental impact and proactively identify opportunities to reduce the carbon footprint of the fleet and operations.
Explore new ideas for integrating public transport with regional sustainability initiatives, such as the promotion of cycling and walking

What we don’t want
We are not looking for an inflexible supplier who is unwilling or unable to adjust services to meet changing demands. We do not want passive service delivery; we value strong local leadership and innovation. We also don’t want a service that is unsafe or unaffordable.
