Transpower has been running a Demand Response (DR) programme since 2013. Demand response allows electricity consumers to respond to a signal from an organisation, like Transpower, to reduce their electricity demand for a period in exchange for payment.
Currently Transpower’s DR programme supports the commercial, industrial and institutional sectors and is investigating expanding into the batteries, agri-business, Small / Medium Business and residential sectors over the next five years.

An essential requirement to efficiently operate a DR programme is a Demand Response Management System (DRMS). Transpower’s current DRMS has served well to date, but without significant investment, it will not support the future objectives of the DR Programme.
Transpower wishes to engage with the market through a procurement process to determine the most appropriate solution for its next DRMS. At the completion of the process, and subject to a business case, the intention is to enter a contract with the selected supplier to implement and support the DRMS.
