Overview

Tauranga Historic Village (THV) is seeking an experienced and innovative café owner / catering supplier to occupy the Commercial Kitchen and Café in Complex 2 and provide catering services for its hireable venue spaces. This is a unique chance to collaborate with THV in creating a vibrant community hub that serves approximately 250,000 visitors annually and hosts over 200 events with 35,000 attendees.

The new café space, designed to seat 60 people, will be a cornerstone hospitality outlet, offering exceptional food and beverages to daily visitors while supporting event catering. A complete renovation of the premises is scheduled for completion on 28 February 2025, resulting in:
• a brand-new café and kitchen on the ground floor (60 seats) (Reference Appendix 1 – Floor Plans)
• introduction of a new hirable venue upstairs, the Balcony Room (150 seats)

This will provide THV with two 150-person venues, alongside the Village Hall and four other hirable spaces: The Village Chapel, School House, Durham Barracks, and Village Cinema.
We are looking for a café owner / catering supplier who shares THV’s vision of a unique, inspired and diverse community hub. The ideal partner will bring a diverse, high-quality food and beverage offering that complements other providers in the Village. Adherence to Tauranga City Council’s Resource Wise sustainability programme is essential (https://www.tauranga.govt.nz/living/rubbish-and-recycling/resource-wise-programme).

The successful applicant must have appropriate certifications and a Food Control Plan, Health and Safety Plan, and the ability to supply qualified staff. Experience in the sale of liquor is advantageous as we explore future opportunities for liquor sales.
