Provision of Community based respite for young people of Tairawhiti

This new initiative aims to provide access to community-based respite for young people who experience significant mental health problems or addictions. It’s a first for Tairāwhiti and requires a fresh approach to support the young person and their whānau in what can be a very difficult time. Respite is a place of safety for the young person and their whānau; it provides an opportunity to reduce distress and space to consider what matters most for the young person and their whanau.Hauora Tairāwhiti is looking for innovative providers who want to build on existing capabilities, experience and infrastructure to deliver community-based respite for young people. They need to have a good track record in working with children, young people and their whānau, delivering peer-led services from a strengths base and recovery focus, and a particular focus on successfully engaging Māori whānau.This is a one-off opportunity to be a partner in developing and implementing a unique service to meets the needs of young people with significant mental health problems and addictions in Tairāwhiti. It won’t look like respite services anywhere else in New Zealand because it’s being developed specifically in response to the Tairāwhiti setting.
