Overview

South Taranaki District Council (STDC) propose to replace rider main running through Pacey Avenue. The existing 50 mm galvanized iron rider main, installed in 1960 is in poor condition with several breakages and a new rider main of 63 OD PE needs to be installed as it is more cost-effective to replace the old pipe than to repair it.
The existing 50mm galvanized iron pipes will be disconnected and left in their existing location. Two tee junctions will be installed on the existing 100mm AC pipe with one near the junction of Reid Avenue and the other near the junction of Bone Crescent. This element of the work shall be undertaken by a licenced asbestos removal contractor, for more than 10 square meters, with all required Health and Safety and legislative protocols being strictly adhered to.
The open trench method will be used in laying the new rider main.
Furthermore, existing old Toby and meter manifolds will be replaced with new ones. The contractor shall also supply all fittings, valves, surface boxes, service laterals and connection to existing property kits etc. as detailed on the drawings and listed in the Schedule of Quantities. To minimize surface disruption and reduce environmental impact, service pipe connections should be installed using techniques such as Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), Microtunneling, Auger Boring, or other approved alternatives. These methods provide more sustainable and less invasive solutions compared to traditional open trenching, ensuring minimal disturbance to the environment and surrounding infrastructure.
