Overview

Southern DHB has a number of ageing facilities over the Southern region and we require accurate data on the existence of asbestos in our premises. We are seeking the services of a specialist asbestos consultant to carry out asbestos management (Type 1) surveys, more in depth Type 2 sampling surveys, and refurbishment/demolition (Type 3) surveys as required. We also require short notice urgent responses to requests for the sampling of suspect material, air monitoring and a quick turnaround of laboratory results to allow us to keep the health-care facilities, which the people of Otago and Southland rely on, running in a safe and efficient manner. Sign- off and clearance of asbestos removal/environmental cleaning activities is also key.

We require the following to be undertaken as and when required:
• Undertake desktop review of the likely presence of asbestos containing materials.
• Carry out type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 surveys where required by Southern DHB.
• Label identified and suspected asbestos containing materials with labels conforming to WorkSafe NZ standards. Does not include the provision of labels.
• Sampling and associated testing must be undertaken in line with UK Health and Safety Executive Guideline HSG 264; until NZ guidance is available.
• Provide professional advice and guidance to the Southern DHB on measures required to occupy, maintain and use facilities.
• Update the Southern DHB asbestos database: The Electronic Asbestos Management System (TEAMS).
• Provide drawings clearly showing location of confirmed and suspected asbestos containing materials within TEAMS.
