Overview

This Request for Tender (RFT) is for the physical works component of the Arena 2 Change Facility Upgrade at Mt Smart Stadium.

The existing Arena 2 Change Facilities were built in the late 1980s as support infrastructure for the warm-up athletics track for the 1990 Commonwealth Games. With a primary focus on athletics, the two change rooms are very small and not conducive to use by team sports. Consequently, when rugby league and football is played on Arena 2, one team tends to utilise both change rooms with the opposition team using change rooms in Arena 1. This is highly undesirable for the teams concerned and also adds unnecessary expense, as well as reducing the overall utility of Arena 2, as Arena 1 needs to be available to provide the requisite support facilities.

The Arena 2 Change Facilities are now almost 30 years old and the fixtures and fittings are largely original and in need of replacement.

Given the age and shortcomings of the existing facilities, the opportunity has been taken to design a refitted and expanded Facility that will provide:
1. Enhanced facilities for the existing community sport activity in Arena 2, including athletics, rugby league, football, and police training.
2. Enhanced support facilities (including storage) for the flood-lit rugby league training field (Field 3).
3. Facilities that will be appropriate for hosting semi-professional sports events (such as Auckland Rugby League finals).

Key aspects of the proposed new Facility include:
1. Two change facilities with sufficient scale to accommodate up to 35 players in each with the ability to then further divide the change facilities to accommodate four community sports teams.
2. Modernised and expanded public toilet facilities.
3. Expanded referee’s change facilities providing for separate male and female facilities.
4. Proper first aid and drug testing facilities.
5. Dedicated storage area.
6. A modernised Facility that will greatly enhance the visual amenity of the area.
7. Energy efficient design with LED lighting, instantaneous gas water heating, and natural ventilation to avoid the need for any mechanical ventilation.
