Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children (Oranga Tamariki) will shortly be going to market to run an open competitive tender for the delivery of a Youth Justice Remand Care Home in Gisborne.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for a suitable provider/collaboration who can demonstrate the required capability, capacity and experience to run a remand care home within Gisborne.

Critical to this service is an understanding of client need and the ability to deliver a rangatahi-centred service. We are looking for provider/s to deliver a service that is consistent with the social, cultural and spiritual values of the rangatahi that are remanded into care subject to a custody order under the chief executive of Oranga Tamariki, an iwi social service or a cultural service. It is envisaged that rangatahi will be assisted to further develop their cultural identity and their links to Māori, Pacific and other cultural groups.

Oranga Tamariki is dedicated to supporting tamariki and rangatahi in New Zealand whose wellbeing is at significant risk of harm now, or in the future. Our belief is that in the right environment, with the right people surrounding and nurturing them, tamariki and rangatahi can, and should flourish.

What’s next?
We anticipate publishing the Request for Proposals (RFP) on the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) in early February 2019. Proposals will be accepted from new and established providers for delivery of this service.
