Fire and Emergency wish to engage the services of a construction supplier to carry out works at the Paraparaumu fire station, 22 Te Roto Drive, Paraparaumu to provide a fit for purpose facility.
The Paraparaumu Fire Station was constructed in 2009. After an earthquake off the coast of Kapiti, a rapid seismic assessment was conducted to investigate some reported minor damage. While this damage did not affect the structural integrity of the building, a more detailed seismic assessment (DSA) was recommended. Upon reviewing the building's drawings, structural design issues were identified, prompting the need for further investigation. The DSA confirmed that the building requires structural remediation to meet fit-for-purpose and resilient standards. The assessment revealed that the station is currently rated below 33% of the New Building Standard (NBS) for Importance Level 4 (IL4)
.
As a result, Fire and Emergency have decided to structurally remediate the building to a higher safety standard, aiming to achieve 70% of the NBS IL4. The construction work must be staged to ensure that the fire station remains operational while the remediation works are being carried out.
This is a two-stage tender process, those shortlisted from this Request for Interest stage will move onto the Request for Proposal stage which will include pricing in late January 2025.
