Overview

The Northland Regional Council (NRC) invites Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified property development organisations for a joint-venture development comprising the large consolidated parcel of land known as 8 Kensington Avenue, Whāngārei. The property is in close proximity (within 5 minutes drive) to Whāngārei city centre. The location, on the corner of Kensington Avenue and Kamo Road, enjoys strong profile to a prominent intersection which, is strategically positioned to take advantage of homeward bound traffic from the city centre.

The NRC is now seeking suitable property developers for this land in order to bring about the rejuvenation of the site and meet one of the NRC's objectives of promoting sustainable development and the region's economic, social and cultural wellbeing. The structure of the joint–venture and the development proposed is for the market to inform. This project is anticipated to include but is not limited to redeveloping the existing bulk retail (formerly a Countdown supermarket) and/or pursuing alternative brownfield development options.

A staged development approach could be contemplated providing considerable flexibility in how the 9,967m2 land area is treated. The property has a large 133m frontage onto the main vehicular thoroughfare Kamo Road. Existing improvements consist of 2,890m2 with adjacent lots comprising a mixture of retail, residential and medical, providing a wide range of development opportunities.
