North Island Weather Events Recovery Fund
The Government is providing a further $35.4 million to support the recovery of rural communities affected by North Island weather events, including Cyclone Gabrielle. The funding will be available to all parts of the primary industries, including horticulture, agriculture, fisheries, and forestry.
Expressions of Interest are called for suppliers who can provide services and projects that address time-critical health and safety and animal health and welfare needs, or services and projects that connect isolated and under-served communities with community-led recovery for North Island Weather Events (NIWE).
This fund is set up to respond to continuing and emerging short-term rural community and business needs across the food and fibre sector.
To be eligible for funding businesses and groups must:
• provide services in a region affected by North Island Weather Events (NIWE),
• be GST registered, a registered charity, Māori iwi group, or recognised representative body, and
• operate within the primary industries.
EOIs are for providers who can deliver supplies and services to affected businesses and communities. Funding will not be available for individual farmers and growers.
The criteria for this funding are:
• the funding will address community needs
• the funding will support regionally led recovery of isolated and underserviced rural communities impacted by the NIWE, or meet a need that relates to time-critical health and safety or animal health and welfare
• funded activities must be completed by 31 December 2023.
In order to place expressions of interest, please head to the Ministry for Primary Industries website: Cyclone Gabrielle recovery: advice, support, and funding | NZ Government (https://www.mpi.govt.nz/funding-rural-support/adverse-events/cyclone-gabrielle-recovery-advice-support-and-funding-available/)
You will need to complete an Expression of Interest form (available on the MPI website) and send this through to niwerecoveryfunding@mpi.govt.nz. Do not apply through GETS, all applications will be taken through this email address. Any questions can be addressed through the previous email address, and questions and answers will be published on the MPI website. Expressions of interest will be reviewed as they are received and should be submitted as soon as possible.
