Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are a group of plant toxins that are produced in a wide range of typically flowering plant species. Due to a key data gap in New Zealand of PA levels in teas, herbal teas, and herbal infusions, the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) is seeking to procure laboratory testing services to test the level of PAs in teas.

Further to PAs, as an option, the Ministry would also be interested to develop datasets for tropane alkaloids (TAs).
