The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) is looking for a Programme Manager for the Solid Waste Management Programme (SWMP) Phase 3 to ensure the timely delivery of the Solid Waste Management Plan as well as support the Government of Kiribati to implement the broader Kiribati Solid Waste Management and Resource Recovery Strategy.
The Programme Manager role will ensure the effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Programme so that it progresses agreed outcomes, including to improve the governance and capacity of the Government of Kiribati and implementing partners to deliver effective waste management services.
The Objectives of this role are to:
• Effectively manage the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of the SWMP in line with the agreed design document.
• Build the capacity and capability of the Kiribati Ministry of Environment, Lands and Agricultural Development (MELAD) and other solid waste management stakeholders.
• Encourage and embed a shared understanding of, and commitment to, the outputs, outcomes, and goal of the SWMP among a range of stakeholders.
• Work closely with relevant stakeholders to support long term sustainability, including Government of Kiribati buy-in and endorsement, of solid waste management interventions; and
• Maintain an effective and respectful relationship with MELAD and other stakeholders, in order to ensure that project objectives are achieved (other stakeholders include GoK agencies, NGO and MFAT – primarily the NZ High Commission).
This role will appeal if you are interested in being part of a programme that directly contributes to the enhancement of local communities in the Pacific. The initial assignment will be for up to 24 months full time, with an option to extend to a further 12 months. Anticipated start in June 2022, this role is based in South Tarawa, Kiribati.
