The Meridian Group has an aspiration to be net Zero Carbon by 2025, through the growing of primarily native forest on our own land in New Zealand. We anticipate that we will need to complete the bulk of the planting in the Spring of 2019 and 2020.
A key requirement (alongside the sequestering of carbon to meet our stated timeline) is lifting the biodiversity of the regions we operate in. Our preference is for primarily native forestry, and not to use pinus radiata or other pine based plantation models. Innovation in terms of how we can meet our sequestration goals in a cost effective way whilst enhancing biodiversity is welcomed.
The involvement of others (community groups, iwi, NGOs, local government bodies, etc) will also be a key part of this programme.
We have estimated that the size of the Meridian Group's greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for operational emissions is approximately 23,000 tCO2e for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions sources.
The purpose of this RFI is to assess market capability to deliver these services, and to co-design a programme of work with one or more providers.
