A project had been identified on the 5YA to replace corroded metal fencing, repair a brick wall and repair paving that had slumped. The brick wall was subsequently identified with a Wellington City Council Category 2 heritage listing in which case any work proposed needs to be passed by an archaeological authority from HNZPT and any works carried out monitored by an archaeologist. Site investigations and condition reporting outcomes identified increased professional services solutions from structural, civil and geotechnical engineering. In addition, instead of resurfacing the sports courts the area will be converted to car parking for which design loads and access requirements are added. The outline of work will be:
• Removing of non heritage brick capping to the brickwall
• Strengthening of the brick retaining wall with ground anchors
• Remediate damage to the brick drainage chamber
• Have Wellington Water carry out repairs of their drains running across the site
• Scrape the entire paved area and excavate for a new car park platform, model falls to new drainage comprising sumps, slot
drains and subsoil drainage and connect to new manholes/drains
• Excavate base of bank to ensure clearances are maintained to new paving, include subsoil drainage
• Excavate for car park ramped access including timber retaining support structure
• Form concrete kerb and channels
• Lay heavy duty asphalt car park and ramp surfacing
• Provide car park markings including directional arrows and non parking areas
• Install wheel stops
• Install 1100 m high barriers to edge of car park walls
• Planting/grassing where required
