The Ministry of Education (the Ministry) is seeking specialist teacher recruitment agents with a depth of expertise working in the New Zealand education system. These agents will assist schools and early childhood services that have recruitment difficulties, giving preference to New Zealand teachers and teaching graduates. They will also work with the Ministry of Education to build a quality teaching workforce, helping to ensure that students have the right teacher, in the right place, at the right time to meet their learning needs.
What we need
We are looking for teacher recruitment agents that have experience working in the New Zealand education sector, supporting teachers, early childhood services and schools from all cultures and communities.
While there is currently a sufficient number of teachers in our system overall, they are not necessarily the right teachers in the locations or sectors, or in the subjects that are needed. These challenges differ by location, sector and subject, and include:
• Recruiting the best and brightest into teaching, particularly in areas under pressure
• A high rate of attrition among new graduates (beginning teachers)
• Pockets of pressure for secondary sciences, technology and mathematics teachers, reflecting an international trend
• Pressure on the supply of quality Māori medium and te reo Māori teachers
• Recruiting quality candidates for middle management and leadership roles
• A reducing supply of quality relief teachers
• Emerging pressures specific to Auckland.
Preferred teacher recruitment agents will deliver support to targeted schools and early childhood services with recruitment difficulties in English, Māori and Pacific mediums, and to targeted teachers or new graduates who seek professional help to progress their career.
The selected agents will be contracted for an initial term of two years, with provision for the Ministry to extend that term with one year extensions up to three years, at its option, for a maximum contract term of four years.
