The work required for the LUCAS Planted Forest Plot Network Field Audit 2021 to 2030 involves the audit of the of field-based permanent sample plot data collected across the national LUCAS plot network. The audit will run in parallel with the inventory and will occur over a ten year period starting in July 2021 covering two full inventory measurements cycles of five years each. This work contributes directly to New Zealand’s reporting requirements under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
This procurement relates to the delivery of the field audit which runs parallel to the planted forest inventory field measurements feeding into the Land-Use, Land Use Change and Forestry chapters of New Zealand’s Greenhouse Gas National Inventory Report. Measurement of the planted forest estate (both pre-1990 and post-1989 forests) has been running as a continuous inventory since 2016. The incumbent supplier has performed the services well however, in accordance with the Government Procurement Rules, we are offering this long term opportunity to the market. Going forward we will continue to run a continuous inventory with annual field measurements and parallel audits to ensure accurate estimates of carbon stocks and carbon stock changes across New Zealand’s planted forest estate.
