We (the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment) are looking to better understand the market for the purchase and reutilisation of surplus housing.
Following the Canterbury earthquakes in 2010 and 2011, the New Zealand Government established three temporary villages and one permanent housing subdivision. The Crown owns 124 houses which are currently being used for short-term rental accommodation.
The need for temporary housing in Canterbury is beginning to balance with the increased private market housing supply. This means the Crown no longer requires all of the houses and wishes to begin considering the disposal process.
For the purpose of this RFI the surplus houses include 22 re-locatable houses situated on Waimakariri District Council-owned land at Kaiapoi Domain, Kaiapoi, Canterbury.
