KiwiRail is seeking bulk fuel supply for a five-year term October 2022 - October 2027, with the potential right of renewal.
Marine fuel supply will undergo significant changes in 2022 due to the implementation of MARPOL 2020; later variation in volume may occur due to two new fuel-efficient ferries coming into service, replacing the current three smaller ferries.
Fuel supply is currently by pipeline in Wellington with backup by truck at Picton.
Alternative methods of marine fuel delivery will be considered only if proposed by suppliers; subject to Interisland line turnaround time requirements.
Alternative supply proposals are required for resilience situations. e.g. earthquake etc.
Diesel supply for locos and generators is required nationally at over 20 KiwiRail owned installations.
Flexibility will be required for alternative fuels, such as biodiesel, that may be subject to future directives.
