Are you interested in how making natural resource information available could benefit New Zealand? Want to get involved with helping set strategy for providing this information across all New Zealand's regional and unitary councils?
The Regional Sector Group is the sector of Local Government NZ that comprises the nation's regional and unitary councils (16 in total). The Regional Council/Unitary Chief Executive Officers are looking to generate discussion and provide the basis for setting a direction that takes a forward view for the regional sector in its capacity as a data and information provider.
The Regional Chief Execs are seeking a think-piece that provides conclusions to these questions:
(i) At a global and national level – what are the likely overarching demands of customers (within and outside the sector) for data/information particularly in the natural resource space both in terms of content and accessibility?
(ii) Who are the current and future "customers" of natural resource data/information and why?
(iii) What are likely to be the audience/customer preferences in terms of delivery products and platforms?
(iv) What is legislative context regarding the role or place of the regional sector to deliver data/information and how does this align to meeting future demands?
(v) Provide a gap analysis in terms of (iii) above as it relates to customer demand versus statutory obligation and where/from whom that gap should or could be met.
(vi) What are future services that could be provided as the base of data expands and becomes more comprehensive?
The think-piece will be for consideration by Regional Chief Executives sponsored by the Environment Monitoring and Reporting Governance Group. The think-piece will provide the basis for wider conversations within the Sector and with Government.
