Overview

Kāinga Ora has partnered with Ngāti Toa Rangātira and the Porirua City Council to develop a 25-year project to regenerate Eastern Porirua.

The overarching objective is to utilise Kāinga Ora’s significant land holdings in the east to rejuvenate Kāinga Ora’s aging housing portfolio, while also enabling new market and affordable housing through redevelopment and better use of the land.

The Project will deliver:

• 2,300 public homes through a mix of renewal and redevelopment
• 1,500 new affordable and market homes.

As a regeneration project, as opposed to just a housing project, the project’s deliverables also include wider wellbeing outcomes for the current and future communities of Eastern Porirua.

As Porirua City Council also have a significant land holding in the east, the urban design of the project encompasses eastern Porirua as a whole as opposed to just focusing on Kāinga Ora land.

Kāinga Ora is engaging with the construction market in relation to the procurement of the civil design and construction contractors to deliver the works, through a large scale alliance civils programme of works.
