Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) is seeking proposals from Tertiary Education Providers for the development of a postgraduate diploma programme for training the Associate Psychologist workforce. It is intended the training will be reflective of the skills, knowledge, attributes and application relevant to psychological practice in health settings and mental health and addictions settings across sectors including Kaupapa Māori services, primary and secondary Mental Health &Addiction services, and NGOs.
The proposed establishment of an Associate Psychologist workforce will allow individuals with a suitable undergraduate qualification to enter further postgraduate diploma training. This training programme must be accredited by the New Zealand Psychologists Board (NZPB). Development of the scope of practice and competencies to be completed early 2025. The first cohort of students are expected to commence their postgraduate study in 2026.
Tertiary Education Providers who are eligible for funding for the development of a postgraduate programme/qualification must:
Be accredited to deliver postgraduate training programmes (by Universities NZ or NZQA)
Be delivering programmes at postgraduate level
Be delivering health focused programmes/qualifications
Have the commitment from your organisation to develop a programme/qualification for the training of Associate Psychologists to commence in 2026
Be accessible to students across Aotearoa New Zealand.
