The objective of this project is to set up a bait station network in the phase 3 area of the Wairoa River to keep possum densities down to low numbers. Bait stations will be set up out of reach of children and stock at approximately 1.6 to 2 meters off the ground. All bait stations will be fixed in such a way that they are always out of sight of the public. The project area is approximately 496 hectares and Bait station densities will largely depend on the amount of habitat within the project. For this project, bait station densities will be approximately 1 per 5 hectares.

All bait stations will be serviced four times with a minimum of 4 weeks between each service. All bait stations will be serviced with double strength pestoff possum bait “brodifacoum” and caped with RataBait paste. Payment will be made after completion of the project and GPS waypoints and tracklogs are provided to HBRC.

All bait stations will be pulsed at a minimum of 4 weeks apart.
