Hawke’s Bay District Health Board (HBDHB) are proposing to upgrade the essential power generator arrangement currently in place at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Hastings. This HBDHB essential power generator upgrade project will be staged over several years with the first stage of the project to commence this year. The intended upgrade works is summarised as follows:
• Construction of a new building to house the new generators; this to be over the top of the existing generator room and adjacent spaces whilst the hospitals essential standby power requirements are maintained (Separate Contract)
• Installation of a new generator switchboard and decommissioning of the existing (Separate Contract)
• Installation of one new generator in the new room and a new generator controls system (This Contract)
• Staged removal over a period of time of the current three generators and replacement with three new generators. (future stages outside of these contract works)
The project has a significant demolition and construction component and the works that are required to take place shall be in and around existing HBDHB buildings containing live services and plant. It is of paramount importance to us that these services and plant are protected and maintained during the course of the contract works.
The services of a Main Build Contractor and their sub trades (including electrical) shall be procured separately by the HBDHB. The Main Contractor will take on the role of lead or Main Contractor to those sub-contractors required to achieve the full-service provision.
The Generator & Controls Contractor shall be responsible for the procurement and installation of a new generator set, controls system and associated generator components including diesel, attenuation and exhaust systems. This work shall take place parallel to the generator room build. The Generator Contractor shall be required to coordinate and work in with the Main Build Contractor and their sub trades and will be responsible for their own sub trades.
