This contract is for the:
Construction of a new bridge crossing the Karamu Stream. Refer to the Construction Drawings attached in Appendix A. Refer also to the drawings attached in Appendix 13 for tie in and context in relation to the main WAL alignment works.
This forms part of the Whakatu Arterial Link (WAL) project, which is a regionally significant project within the Hawke’s Bay.
The main alignment WAL Physical Works has been tendered separately. Therefore, this contract is for the construction of the new bridge only and ties into and forms an important part of the main alignment works.
The bridge consists of a two lane double span bridge with a maximum clear span of 24.4 m and total length of 45 m.
Close communication and programming of works with the main alignment contractor will be essential in delivering this project.
For clarification, the requirements in relation to the main alignment (separate contract) and therefore, excluded from this contract, include the following:
Construction and maintenance of a temporary access for the Contractors constructing the new Karamu Stream Bridge. This is to be constructed to allow all weather access for all construction vehicles and is to facilitate safe and reliable access at all times;
Realignment of Karamu Stream in vicinity of proposed bridge / road crossing;
Construction of earth embankments and tie in to new bridge;
Tie in to the bridge, including road interface, off-road paths, safety barriers etc.;
All signs and pavement markings;
Surfacing across the completed bridge deck;
Liaison and work in close partnership with bridge contractor in terms of programme, sequencing of works, safety and overall project objectives.
