What is going to be tendered?
The demolition of property structures is sequenced to occur immediately after they have been vacated, key utilities have been disconnected and Class A & B hazardous substances surveyed. The number of units to be demolished is more than 140, in streets near or in the Lower Hutt Central Business District. It is the Partners intention to award blocks of properties for demolition to qualified and experienced contractor(s) through the upcoming tender process only. The timing will be dependent on the schedule for vacated properties and other prerequisite conditions being met. Some blocks may vary in size, from one to seven properties and up to 40 or more. Some blocks of properties may comprise residential, multi residential, light commercial and/or heavy, high rise commercial structures.
What the Partners Want
Contractors working on the RiverLink Project will experience a variety of project interfaces, with numerous accountabilities. Contractors will need to be invested in complying with governing consent conditions and must respect the cultural interests of the project. The scale and nature of the demolition scope available for tender will therefore be best suited to contractors with:
Experience in residential demolition;
Experienced in commercial and multistorey demolition, including heavily reinforced concrete structures with complex façade designs;
Be qualified for Class A and Class B asbestos removal, to meet regulatory requirements if such materials are identified in hazardous substance surveys;
Have a strong track record of compliance to consent conditions and an excellent safety record, particularly evident in commercial demolition containing asbestos and other hazardous substances;
Demonstrate capacity to deliver the quantity in short timeframes with the ability to accommodate housing relocation company needs;
Ensure procurement, employment, education and skills opportunities are created for local people (including iwi and Māori) and maximise use of local and iwi-owned businesses within Hutt City;
Be experienced in accompanying project specialists at community engagement events and aid in communications content for public interest;
Possess a profound respect for the culture and people of our local area, with a proven commitment to the value and importance of Te Awa Kairangi to the Lower Hutt community; and
Subcontractors who demonstrate capability to support a Contractor’s capability to meet the project requirements.
