Overview

The New Zealand Intelligence Community would like to invite providers, and potential providers, of professional and consulting services related to Protective Security to information sessions planned for late March 2015.

The sessions will provide an overview of the Protective Security Requirements (PSR), the website for which (www.protectivesecurity.govt.nz) was launched on 15 December 2014. The PSR is the product of extensive collaboration with a number of New Zealand Government agencies and aims to provide better guidance and support to enable New Zealand Government to meet core requirements in the areas of protective security governance, personnel security, physical security, and information security.

The purpose of the PSR is to help agencies:

• identify their individual levels of security risk tolerance
• achieve core requirements for protective security expected by government
• develop an appropriate security culture to securely and effectively meet their business goals.

The objective of these sessions is to provide commercial service providers with insight and understanding into the New Zealand government’s approach to protective security, and by doing so enable them to consider service offerings that will meet the needs of government agencies. This will include giving service providers an understanding of the requirements government agencies must meet in the outsourcing of services and functions. It will enable service providers to understand the security-related contractual criteria that will be a condition of outsourced services.

The information sessions are intended to enable prospective service providers to develop fit for purpose propositions and meet security requirements. We do not at this stage intend to form an approved panel of providers (such as the ICT Common Capabilities Panel for security services established by the GCIO), however some of the services that might be sought as a result of the launch of the PSR may be provided by companies on the ICT panel.
