This procurement is to secure a contract for the upgrade of a popular 1km alpine walk known as Conical Hill Track and is usually walked as a side venture when tramping the Routeburn Track, upon reaching Harris Saddle Shelter. The track climbs from the Harris Saddle up to Conical Hill (1,515m), about a 300m climb, giving superb views to the east along the Upper Routeburn, and to the west, the Hollyford Valley through to Lake McKerrow and beyond to Martins Bay and the Tasman Sea to the north.
The planned works fit the category of Public Track Work for the purposes of the Lower North Island and South Island Track Panel using the General Conditions of Contract - NZS 3915:2005 Conditions of Contract for Building and Civil Engineering Construction:
• Construction programme is planned for Summer 2025/2026, after snow melt.
• The contract works include the following elements:
o Site preparation, establishment, and disestablishment,
o Minor blasting to upgrade existing sections of track for new stone-built steps, and
o Installation/development of associated drainage infrastructure.
