The Department of Conservation (DOC) has a future procurement opportunity for undertaking physical works at Hannahs Clearing, Haast for the protection of a legacy industrial landfill which is at risk from coastal erosion. This is an opportunity for capable and experienced contractors to participate and contribute in our efforts of protecting the environment and a remote West Coast community.
To achieve protection of the eroding landfill, a rock wall along ~325m section of the beach is proposed and will comprise of the following:
(a) Removal of Existing Material on beach to Waste: Remove eroded waste and dispose off responsibly where possible (recylcing opportunities to be identified). Waste is non-contaminated and includes timber, car bodies, other predominantly steel industrial waste.
(b) Rock Supply and Construction of Rock Wall Coastal Protection: Delivery of materials from suitable supplier of Quarry Rock, and the construction of a rock wall as per coastal engineer's design and specifications.
(c) Liaise with local community noting there is a likely element of community engagement where local support may be required (for example - access to the site may be required through private properties).
This project is addressing an ongoing erosion issue with urgency, the Department encourages suppliers who have prior experience undertaking earthworks, hauling and construction in a coastal environment to register their interest. The construction will require machinery such as excavators and dumper trucks for the removal of waste, excavation of wall footing, carting of waste and delivery of rock.
We are anticipating going to market for a main contractor in the week of 20 January 2025. We are expecting physical works to start by mid Q1 2025.
RFx Documents and details will be notified to the interested suppliers via GETS.
DOC is not taking questions at this time. Future Procurement Opportunities are to advise the market of potential upcoming opportunities which may or may not be progressed. If the project is progressed, you will be notified. Any further information about this opportunity will be available on GETS if/when we go to market
