The Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa (Creative New Zealand) is looking for an arts organisation or organisation with appropriate knowledge of the literary and publishing sector in Aotearoa to develop, deliver and report on a high-quality National Publishing Arts Internships Programme, in partnership with Whitireia, for a 12-month period during 2023-2024.
The objective of the Publishing Internships Programme is to offer a structured programme of mentoring for interns, which offers mutual benefit to them and their employers. It gives talented newcomers additional training after graduation to develop their confidence and experience.
What outcomes do we want to see?
The Publishing Internships Programme will:
• provide a structured programme of training for Whitireia immediate graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Publishing (Applied) to build their skills in publishing, experience and networks through an intern placement within a publisher host arts organisation
• provide support, relevant training, information and advice to host organisations
• increase the numbers of new entrants’ roles and build career sustainability in the publishing sector
• support a more inclusive and culturally competent publishing sector for Aotearoa New Zealand
• support more employment opportunities for new entrants’ publishers who identify as Māori.
In the week commencing 29 May 2023 we plan to release a call for Registrations of Interest (ROI) to develop, deliver and report on a high-quality National Publishing Arts Internships Programme, in partnership with Whitireia. This part of the process will focus on the attributes we are seeking from potential Suppliers of the National Publishing Arts Internships Programme. The ROI will close on Monday 3 July 2023.
From the ROIs a shortlist of respondents will be invited to respond to a Request for Proposal (RFP) to develop, deliver and report on a high-quality National Publishing Arts Internships Programme for a 12-month period. We anticipate offering a contract for a term of 12 months beginning late 2023. More details will be provided in the ROI.
