Environment Canterbury is looking to understand implementation options for a proposed roaming security team across the Greater Christchurch Metro bus network. This proposal is in response to an increase in driver assaults, robberies and other incidents over the last year. Network security is not a new concept for public transport, with established teams operational in Auckland and many cities around the world.
The RoI process will inform Environment Canterbury on what local vendors can provide as either a ‘standard’ security function or a bespoke service that would also provide on-bus customer support.
Should we proceed with this intervention, the intention is to pilot it for at least 12 months.
Environment Canterbury operates 28 urban bus services in Greater Christchurch under the Metro brand. We are working closely with our operators and partnering Councils to ensure we provide a safe service.
The intention of the opportunity within the scope of this RoI is to have presence in a roaming presence on the network throughout the network/week, with the locations based on Environment Canterbury’s steer on where attention is best invested.
