Aurora Energy are proposing to upgrade the Green Island 33/6.6 kV substation located at 12 Boomer Street, in Green Island, Dunedin. Currently, the substation has two ASEA 33/6.6 kV, 15 MVA Dyn 11 transformers tail fed from the Halfway Bush GXP via two 33 kV overhead sub-transmission lines. This upgrade will involve the installation of two new 33/11-6.6 kV, 24 MVA transformers in outdoor bays and a new 11 kV switchroom (operated at 6.6 kV) located at the rear of the existing substation site.
The planned upgrade will be delivered in two distinct phases under two separate contracts. The first phase will see the delivery of the civil and structural works as broadly described in Section B – Scope & Specification of this Registration of Interest (ROI). This ROI is the first stage in a two-stage procurement process and is focused on the civil and structural works and broadly includes:
- earthworks
- fencing
- vegetation removal
- trenching
- supply, placement and compaction of sub-base hardfill
- supply, placement and compaction of sub-base and basecourse placement courses and seal incl. tie-in to existing surfaces
- switchroom construction
- foundation and bund construction for transformer and ancillary equipment
- construction of the oil containment structure
- supply and installation of wastewater and stormwater systems
- earth grid installation
- power cable duct installation
The second phase will consist of the electrical works that will commence at the conclusion of the civil and structural works. The electrical works will be delivered by an Aurora Energy approved network contractor.
