Overview

Purpose of Request for Information (RFI)

Auckland Transport (AT) is actively preparing for the upcoming procurement of four key Auckland ferry routes during 2024/2025:

• Bayswater
• Birkenhead/Te Onewa Northcote Point
• West Harbour
• Rakino
Before proceeding with a formal procurement process, AT aims to engage with industry experts and potential ferry operators to both explain the significant opportunity these routes present and gather crucial insights. This engagement will focus on understanding the optimal approach to vessel procurement and service delivery that aligns with AT’s strategic objectives for enhancing the overall efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of the ferry services.

Through this RFI, AT seeks to:

• Collect information that will help define the scope and requirements for any potential future tender.
• Understand the capabilities and innovations potential operators can bring to the Western Package.
• Obtain feedback on operational and technical aspects that could influence the procurement strategy, including fleet renewal pathways, vessel specifications, and service integration across the specified routes.
The insights gathered will be instrumental in shaping a procurement strategy that not only meets the immediate operational needs but also sets the stage for long-term service improvements and network integration, ensuring that the ferry services continue to deliver a high standard in safety, sustainability, reliability, and customer amenity.
