Auckland Transport will install physical barriers at pedestrian level rail crossings. Following an assessment using the Australian Level Crossing Assessment Model (ALCAM) and a level crossing safety impact assessment (LCSIA) of its Western rail line, Auckland Transport has identified 2 sites along the Western Line as high pedestrian risk. These level crossings are located at: -
• St Georges Road, Avondale
• Portage Road, New Lynn
Auckland Transport is seeking tender submissions from rail prequalified civil contractors to undertake the civil construction works associated with the safety improvements at the above crossings.
The successful contractor will be required to: -
• alter the existing pedestrian crossings
• install automated gates and emergency gate configurations at St Georges Road, Avondale and Portage Road, New Lynn. The scope of works will also include installation of ducting, concrete base for new gates, excavation work for signal bases, safety fencing alterations and minor lighting works.
