This contract is for the heavy bridge maintenance repairs to the existing historic bridge built circa 1914 known as Elizabeth Street Pedestrian Bridge. The bridge is located in a prominent position within the Warkworth community, and holds intrinsic heritage values, both to the Auckland area and further afield across the concrete industry of New Zealand.
The bridge was identified through programmed structural asset monitoring inspections, and through subsequent investigations, that the bridge asset is in need of comprehensive maintenance repairs. The repairs are required to prolong the life of this asset to ensure its ongoing performance into the future.
The careful planning an implementation of critical project tasks is key to the success of this project. It is important that the contractor develops a suitable construction methodology to ensure the continued stability of the bridge during construction all the while maintaining safe pedestrian thoroughfare across the bridge. Although the design engineer has identified their willingness to work with the successful tenderer to identify suitable temporary support systems, the need for and strength of temporary support during construction remains the responsibility of the successful tenderer.
In order to mitigate disruption to the local business and community overall Auckland Transport requires the contract works to be successfully delivered within a specified timeframe.
Tenderers should be advised that Auckland Transport also other roading projects taking place in the vicinity of the project site including the Neville Street rehab project in the 2017/2018 summer months.
The design drawings for the bridge maintenance have been included with these RFT documents
