Wellington Zoo is New Zealand’s first zoo, and Wellington’s oldest conservation organisation, caring for animals since 1906- we are the Zoo with the biggest heart. The Zoo has been a not for profit charitable trust since 2003. The Trust runs the Zoo on behalf of Wellington City Council. At Wellington Zoo we welcomed 252,973 visitors in 2018-19, our second highest visitation ever. To maintain community expectations, animal welfare standards and sustainability and conservation outcomes it is important that we keep our Zoo interesting and exciting to visitors, providing a new adventure every time. We are proud to be the world’s first Toitū carbonzero certified zoo.
To continue our success we plan to complete our Asia experience by redeveloping an existing empty animal space to house Snow Leopards. Since the construction of the Asia Precinct for the Sun Bears and Sumatran Tigers we have a large space that is currently unused (the old Sun Bear habitat) but is suitable for Snow Leopards. The purpose of this Request for Proposal (RFP) is to invite parties to submit their proposals to provide an Integrated Detailed Design, Construction Supervision and Architectural Service for the “Wellington Zoo - Snow Leopards”
This tender is for an integrated design solution encompassing a single provider being responsible delivering the following services, but are not limited to:
• Architectural Services
• Stakeholder engagement
• Design for staff, visitors and animals
• Civil engineering (including localised stormwater, lighting, pavement design, etc)
• Land surveying
• Landscape architecture
• Planning / resource management
• Environmental sustainability considerations in design and construction
• Design & Construction Supervision
• Project and design output alignment with the Zoo’s approved CAPEX limit
• Issuance of the Practical Completion Certificate
This multi-disciplinary service offering is anticipated being provided from either;
1. a single multi-disciplinary consultancy organisation; or
2. via a lead consultant that directly sub-contracts and manages others to deliver the required integrated solution.
The Zoo is prepared to accept proposals that encompass either of the above formats and may (at its sole discretion) accept an alternative service offering that achieves the same result.
