In 2016 the University of Waikato (UoW) commissioned a design competition for a new Marae and Multi-purpose Facility, subsequently renamed The Pā. The Pā will be the new formal and ceremonial entrance to the Hillcrest campus. It will include a new marae with increased prominence, capability and community engagement, new spaces for teaching and learning, facilities and capacity for hosting major conferences and events, new executive offices, and a student community hub. Refer to Appendix Two Concept Design Brief for further details of the project. Construction value is estimated to be between $40m and $50m. Following the conclusion of the design competition the UoW has awarded the contract for architectural services and now wishes to procure all of the other consultants required for the project.
