RFP for Hunua Feral Pig Control
This procurement is to control feral pig populations over 6400 ha of the Hunua Ranges Regional Park, and some adjacent private bush blocks as part of a suite of pest animal control programmes working to protect the unique biodiversity values of ecologically significant areas within the Ranges.
Feral pig populations have been increasing across the Ranges despite recreational pig hunting efforts. Control is needed to reduce these populations in the areas most vulnerable from these pigs, and to also support other pest animal control programmes such as the Kokako Management Area, where mustelid, rodent & possum control tools are receiving some interference.
Also at threat is our precious Kauri, as pigs have been proven to spread this disease in the Waitakere Ranges. With the Hunua Ranges remaining disease free, it is important we ensure vector pathways of the spread of the disease are minimised to protect these trees as much as possible.
